Yellow Pages Group Launches SHOP THE NEIGHBOURHOOD, a Local Shopping Campaign in the GTA to Support Small Businesses

Toronto (Ontario), October 21, 2013 – With a century-long legacy of working with local businesses in Canada’s communities coast to coast, Yellow Pages Group (YPG), a leading digital media and marketing solutions company, is launching Shop The Neighbourhood in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), an initiative to encourage local shopping and promote support for local businesses.

“As the busy holiday shopping season approaches, we’re taking the opportunity to remind people in the GTA of the important role shopping choices play in shaping our local neighbourhoods,” said François Ramsay, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs for Yellow Pages Group. “Choosing to spend your hard-earned dollars in a local business as opposed to online or across the border directly benefits our local businesses which play a key role in the dynamism and prosperity of our neighbourhoods.”

On Saturday, November 30, 2013 – during a weekend when Canadians tend to flock south of the border to take advantage of Black Friday deals or shop online for Cyber Monday bargains – Shop The Neighbourhood encourages people to make a local purchase to show their support for the shops and services offered in local communities.

“We encourage everyone in the GTA to show their support for the hard working business owners and operators who are proud members of our communities and help make our neighbourhoods great place to work, live and play,” continued Ramsay.

To drive consumer traffic, participating businesses in Shop The Neighbourhood will be offering deals and savings exclusive to November 30 which can be accessed using the Yellow Pages or ShopWise mobile apps.

The Shop The Neighbourhood campaign kicks off this evening at the CN Tower, Horizons Restaurant at 6 p.m. with speeches of support from:

  • Doug A. Clarke, Senior Vice-President, Yellow Pages Group
  • Hon. Deb Matthews, Deputy Premier of Ontario
  • Andrea Horwath, Leader, New Democratic Party of Ontario
  • Tim Hudak, Leader, Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario

Additionally, on November 29, the evening prior to Shop The Neighbourhood event day, the CN Tower will light yellow in a reminder of the positive impact local purchases can have on our communities.

Shop The Neighbourhood was piloted by Yellow Pages Group in February under the banner “ Shop Local ” and held in Downtown Oakville, Ontario.
