Shop The Neighbourhood Encourages Canadians to Support Small Businesses and Spend Money Locally
Montreal (Quebec), November 29, 2014 – Today, Yellow Pages is encouraging Canadians to make planned purchases locally in support of small businesses and their neighbourhoods during its Shop The Neighbourhood event.
Strategically placed between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Shop The Neighbourhood is a corporate social responsibility initiative of Yellow Pages designed to remind Canadians of the positive impact of spending dollars locally through a six-week awareness campaign which started mid-October during small business week.
Over 200 business associations across Canada have joined the event with over 8,300 businesses offering more than 6,700 promotions exclusive to November 29th, accessible by searching Shop The Neighbourhood on YP.ca and the YP mobile app . Business participation in the campaign is entirely free.
"Canada's local businesses are a vital part of what makes our neighbourhoods unique and are often the reason we choose these areas to live or spend time in. As Canadians gear up for the holiday shopping season, Shop The Neighbourhood is about making sure that we all remember that purchases made at local retailers positively benefit our neighbourhoods, our local economies and in turn, enrich our communities," said Julien Billot, President and CEO of Yellow Pages.
In its operations, Yellow Pages also seeks to close the digital gap between Canadian consumers and small businesses. A 2014 research note from the Canadian Internet Registration Authority states that while three quarters of Canadians research purchases online, less than half of small businesses in Canada have an up to date online presence.
Shop The Neighbourhood provides local businesses with the opportunity to update their online presence and experiment with mobile marketing at no cost.

About Shop The Neighbourhood™
Shop The Neighbourhood is a Yellow Pages initiative to encourage local shopping and support for small businesses. Taking place during the busiest shopping season of the year, Shop The Neighbourhood raises awareness of the large-scale push from retailers both online and across the border which moves dollars away from the small businesses and directly impacts the health of our neighbourhoods and our communities. On Saturday, November 29th, people will be encouraged to make a local purchase in support of local businesses and take advantage of exclusive event day deals and savings at local businesses, hosted both online and on the YP and YP ShopWise mobile apps.
